Hyvää Uuta Vuota or Happy New Years

Dear Friends and Family,

So this week was a bit crazy. It's only been a few days since I last emailed, but that's what happens around the holidays. So here I am again!! My letters are going to be shorter now because I only have 90 minutes to type. Which I am sad about because there is so much to say. I think I might just start sending my journals home and let you all read those!!! I don't know but we'll see how the letter writing goes for now.

I am in Lohja. It is a city that is west of Helsinki a few kilometers. It is snowy and cold and dark, but beautiful. The members here all love missionary work and the missionaries themselves. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that most people here served a mission if they were a member at the age of 19 or 21. Even most women served. It was so pleasing to hear. But Lohja is amazing and I love being here.

This week we didn't do a ton because of the holidays. And according to Finnish privacy laws I can't tell you names of people so you'll get nicknames. So we'll go by days.

Friday: We had district council and then a lesson with The Weird Cat Lady. And she's interested and also not at the same time, but she agreed to keep meeting with us. She seemed to like the Restoration, but I don't know if she'll read the Book of Mormon like we asked. Today we also visited with a member and her friend, but it didn't seem like the friend was interested.

Saturday: We were going to have a lesson with the Knitter, but she cancelled on us. She is about 25 and she's teaching us how to knit, but she came with questions one day and an interest to learn. So that fell through and now we're working to set up an appointment. But we had a lesson with Depression and his lesson went pretty well. His wife committed suicide this summer so it's been hard, but he seems to accept the Book of Mormon and has been reading it and trying to find happiness in that.

Sunday: We didn't have any lessons, but we were friendshipping a lady in our ward's daughter. SO we went to dinner and talked with her and gained not only her trust but the trust of her family. SO that was something that went well, but she isn't in our area so we can't really teach her, because that isn't allowed. We just had the one time permission. Then when we went home that night, we ended up meeting the Gangster and he was really interested in the Book of Mormon, so wee gave him one and set up to meet him. We aren't sure how it will go, but we meet tonight so we will see.

Monday: We couldn't knock on doors today because of the holiday, so we got to visit a few members and talk with them and bring the Spirit to their homes and that was super nice. One lady who's less active really enjoyed having us because she is pretty lonely. But we like her. She gave us cookies and apples. We also ended up meeting this french guy who was interested. We like him as well. We were able to give him a French Book of Mormon and he said he would come to church. WE didn't even invite him, so that was pretty cool. Later that day, we watched the 5 minutes fireworks and celebrated New Years at 10 pm because we have a bed time. but it was fun.

Tuesday: Was P day so we just cleaned our apartment and went grocery shopping because other stores and the library where we write is closed. So here I am writing at the church today.

I love you all and hope your weeks are awesome and you can feel the Spirit a bunch. I recommend reading the words of out modern day prophet this week. lds.org/generalconference should have all the talks but I recommend reading one from Pres Nelson. Especially the one from women's conference. Ask my mom if you need help. I am just on a time limit. I love you all and I miss you!!!
